FBI warning: ‘Juice Jacking’

Known as ‘Juice Jacking’, this is a threat to your devices (not new, but worth revisiting) and a reminder to never plug your phone or device into unknown USB ports. Use a 110V or 12V charge adapter, bring your own battery pack, or use something like a Data Blocker as a last resort to avoid being a victim of malware injection. Attackers can install devices behind these ports that can inject malicious code onto your device in seconds.

Public Wi-Fi is also best avoided if at all possible for similar reasons, especially in crowded areas such as airports or restaurants where there is heavy traffic flow, and lots of opportunity to try and steal data or other nefarious things. Using a Faraday bag for your phone/wallet/keys whenever possible, and only using known safe USB ports/chargers will keep you safer.
